Rowner Lodge No. 6974 – Freemasonry Explained
Freemasonry is one of the oldest fraternal organisations in the world, built on traditions of friendship, integrity, respect and service. It brings men together to improve themselves, support each other, and make positive contributions to their communities through shared values and charitable work.
At Rowner Lodge No. 6974, we uphold these principles in a welcoming, respectful environment where members from all walks of life come together.
To join, you must be a man over the age of 18 who believes in a Supreme Being and is of good character. You don’t have to already know a Freemason to enquire, anyone genuinely interested in learning more is welcome to contact us.
If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, complete our enquiry form and a member of Rowner Lodge will get in touch to answer your questions.
No. You don’t need any specific skills, religious background, or prior knowledge of Freemasonry. What matters most is a willingness to learn, meet new people, and live by the values Freemasonry promotes.
Freemasonry does encourage moral reflection and self-improvement, but it does not replace or dictate your personal faith or beliefs.
Freemasonry meetings involve a combination of ceremony, learning and fellowship. Traditional Masonic rituals use symbols and allegory to illustrate moral lessons and encourage personal growth.
At Rowner Lodge meetings, members also enjoy social time together, meals, and discussions, helping build lasting friendships as part of the experience.
There is typically an initiation fee, an annual subscription, and the cost of basic regalia (such as aprons). Fees vary between Lodges, and at Rowner Lodge No. 6974 we are happy to discuss these with you, so you understand fully before making any decision.
Charitable giving is part of Freemasonry’s ethos, but donations are always voluntary and within your means.
Freemasonry uses symbolism and ritual to teach lessons about integrity, responsibility and community. These traditions are historical but remain meaningful to members as a way of learning and reflection.
They are private to members, which sometimes leads to misunderstandings. This privacy is meant to preserve the meaning and integrity of the ceremonies, not to be secretive for its own sake.
No. Freemasonry is not a religion and has no political affiliation. Members come from diverse backgrounds and faiths, but the organisation itself remains neutral.
At Rowner Lodge, we support respectful dialogue and encourage members to practise their own beliefs outside the Lodge.
Some of the most common reasons men choose to join include:
Friendship & camaraderie with like-minded people from the local area.
